LIST OF ISSUES

PUBLIC SAFETY

Public safety is a shared responsibility. It requires collaboration between law enforcement agencies, local government, community organizations, and residents to create safer neighborhoods. My top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of every member of our beloved community. Public safety is the foundation upon which all other aspects of our society are built. I will work with the Council and the County Executive to develop a robust comprehensive budget that will support our police department. I will prioritize resources for Crisis Prevention and Alternative Response Teams to manage mental health safety issues as well as address the safety of roads, streets, and overall infrastructure (eg. Vision Zero).

Economic Development

Economic development is the cornerstone of a thriving community. By fostering growth, creating jobs, and supporting local businesses, we can build a stronger, more resilient economy that benefits all residents. Our focus must remain on attracting new investments, expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs, and ensuring that every family has the tools they need to succeed. I will focus on Transit Oriented Development (TOD) that promotes a walkable, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use environment around District Five and its neighboring areas. Further, we should create comprehensive incentive packages aimed at expanding and retaining existing businesses while also attracting new enterprises.

Education

Investing in education is investing in our community’s future. I believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, regardless of their zip code or family background. Our schools must be places where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential. I will seek to strengthen strategic partnerships with federal, state, and local governments to secure the vital financial resources needed to boldly advance the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Act. There is also a need to expand Speciality Schools, while also harnessing the power of the Community Schools to amplify the essential wrap-around services for students, their families, and surrounding residents.

Older Adult Initiatives

I firmly believe in creating a society that honors and supports its seasoned residents. Older adults are vital members of our society, whose contributions over the years have paved the way for the prosperity and well-being we experience today. However, the challenges they face to age in place require targeted actions and thoughtful policies that prioritize their health, security, and dignity. Therefore, we must increase funding for affordable older adult housing programs by supporting tax credits and incentives for developers to build older adult friendly housing. It’s important that we also allocate funding for community-based services that include home modifications, in-home care services, transportation services, meal delivery programs, wellness checks, and recreation services. I will adhere to property tax relief by revising the Senior Property Tax Credit Bill (CB-007-2024 (DR2)) to make sure that it is transparent and efficient in its implementation.

Community Engagement

The strength of our community lies in the active participation, diverse perspectives, and shared commitment of all its members. Meaningful engagement with residents, organizations, businesses, and local leaders is essential to fostering a government that truly reflects the needs, values, and aspirations of the people it serves. I am committed to proactively engaging with and listening to constituent feedback to better understand your concerns and implementing solutions that respond to residents' needs. I will also advocate for residents to receive timely services from County departments and agencies (e.g., DPW&T, DPIE, DSS, OCR, EDC). There will be a priority to provide extensive community outreach through constituent town halls, neighborhood walks, and designated in-person & virtual office hours.
